Nature of Assignments
Treasurer’s is the corporate finance group within ExxonMobil and has a broad mandate to develop and implement financial policies for worldwide operations, including:
· external financing
· cash management
· project economic reviews
· investment of benefit plan assets
· affiliate capital structure
· foreign exchange
· customer credit
· risk management & insurance
· acquisitions & divestments
You can expect to rotate through three or four assignments in the first five years allowing for a variety of experiences to build your skills and knowledge. Most Treasurer’s roles have an international orientation whether based in Texas or overseas and are designed to develop our future leaders over the course of a career. Your strong performance will quickly lead to increasing responsibilities and management opportunities across the financial organizations and various business lines.
Our senior financial management directly oversees the summer internship program and has a high level of interaction with interns throughout the summer. The intern position involves a six week assignment in ExxonMobil's Treasurer's Department at the corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas, and a similar length assignment with a business unit Treasurer's Department (Upstream, Downstream, Chemicals) in Houston, Texas.
Some examples of specific assignments and projects that an intern may be exposed to are:
Evaluate the option value imbedded in phased development of large Upstream projects
Analyze affiliate operating cash balances and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate those balances
Develop financial measures to test the financial capability of competitors during market downturns
Analyze existing processes for paying contractors in major projects and recommend process improvements
Analyze the range of mechanisms used for closing adjustments on asset divestment, and develop recommendations for structuring purchase and sale agreements to minimize such adjustments
Review existing procedures for determining the credit rating of affiliates used to price inter-company loans, determine how closely the results align with external rating agencies, and identify recommended adjustments
Evaluate the investment options provided to employees by the company savings plan and recommend changes
Preferred Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
Interest in international finance, strategy and management
Academic achievement and demonstrated proficiency in quantitative and financial analysis
Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-national and cross-functional teams
Demonstrated leadership paired with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Geographic flexibility (domestic and international)
Many undergraduate majors provide relevant experience when paired with an MBA - common ones include economics, engineering, finance, accounting, math and international relations
Two to five years of prior work experience
