The City of Austin Employees’ Retirement System (COAERS) is currently seeking applications from investment professionals for the position of Portfolio Manager – Strategic Research. The position will perform advanced financial analysis and recommend strategic asset allocation management approaches with the goal of delivering strong risk-adjusted long-term returns for a $2.5 billion pension fund. The position will also develop risk management and tactical asset allocation strategies, including supporting models and proposed structures, as well as determine the operational resources required to implement such strategies. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the Chief Investment Officer with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Experience and Education: An undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a related field is required. In addition, five years of full-time professional institutional investment management experience or other relevant experience in hedge funds, private equity, investment banking, or similar background is required. Experience in data analysis and/or simulation modeling, programming skills, and exposure to multiple asset classes are preferred.
Registration, Certification, or Licensure: A Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master's degree related to finance, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and/or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) are preferred credentials.
Additional Salary Information: The starting salary will be between $165,000 and $185,000 annually with the actual salary corresponding to the experience level and credentials of the candidate within the parameters of public sector compensation. The City of Austin Employees' Retirement System (COAERS) administers retirement, disability, and death benefit programs for regular full-time employees of the City of Austin. Responsibility for the operation and administration of COAERS is vested in an eleven-member Board of Trustees.
