The Senior Risk Analyst will require the use of strong analytical skills to develop and enhance predictive financial and statistical models which will enable the Company to monitor and assess enterprise wide related risks as well as provide education and services that empower informed decision making, operational efficiencies, and profitable insights. The analyst will be expected to bring thought leadership to the discipline, learn the business areas being supported, understand its risks and develop views with regard to the impact of changes in the market, supported with appropriate analysis.
Specifically, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Research, develop and enhance commodity market (natural gas) risk models and methodologies.
Lead in the assessment and evaluation of the company's (enterprise and business units) exposure to risk through quantitative and qualitative risk analytics; modeling to assess probability of specific risks occurring and evaluate/value the impact/consequences of occurrence.
Spearhead risk transfer assessment activities including, but not limited to, determination of or involvement in weather hedging, interest rate hedging instruments, insurance captive program.
Apply stochastic and econometric techniques to support methodology development and validation. Perform back-tests, stress tests, scenario analyses and sensitivity studies.
Demonstrate exceptional analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills and apply these skills to business decisions.
Digest complex processes efficiently and determine how to evaluate risk in that context.
Perform economic research and analyze energy marketplace to understand emerging risks, opportunities, and risk trends. Studies can include rates of return, working capital, investments, and financial and expense performance comparisons.
Understand financial and physical gas markets, including derivatives.
Assist in the establishment of a process to determine/measure the company risk appetite for enterprise and business units through a common approach.
Lead projects involving the development, testing and implementation of automated systems, reengineering of processes and/or implementation of new requirements, utilizing script writing languages such as R and VBA.
Foster internal and external relationships using a collaborative approach with the functional and business unit personnel
Prepare, present, and explain/defend material to Senior Executive Management
Model and evaluate new business activities, products and price types from a risk perspective
Monitor and explain changes in Value at Risk (VaR) and Mark to Market calculations
Validate system inputs including price curves and complex deal entry to ensure the proper calculation of VaR, Mark to Market, and Profit and Loss results
Complete routine risk activity including but not limited to reporting, importing prices, and deal valuation.
Monitor and ensure compliance with CenterPoint's Risk Control Policy
Requires a minimum of three years of professional business experience
Experience building Advanced Excel-based models to analyze data required.
In lieu of minimum work experience requirements, a minimum of one year of industry and/or risk/analytics experience will be accepted if the candidate has an applicable advanced degree/certification.
Advanced degree in Finance or Statistics
PRM (Professional Risk Manager), CFA (Certified Financial Analyst) or similar certification(s) supported and encouraged
Experience with the Endur ETRM system
Experience with @Risk
Experience with coding and query writing
